Classic Punchbowl Family Home with Two Backyard Chickens

Welcome to our much-loved family home in Punchbowl, in Sydney's south-west. The house is a classic post-war Sydney brick veneer with a tile hipped roof, original double brick archways framing the front porch, a single garage at the side and a beautifully maintained front lawn behind a low brick wall. Inside, the home is full of warmth and character: original timber crown moulding and decorative ceiling rosettes, a vintage cane and brass ceiling fan, a brick fireplace with a working gas heater, a comfortable lived-in lounge setting in classic florals and warm cream carpet, and a sunlit sleepout/sunroom at the back. The yard is a small fenced grass square with a backyard chicken coop and a vintage Hills Hoist clothesline. Henrietta is our 3-year-old Isa Brown chicken (the chestnut one) and Bonnie is our 2-year-old Australorp (the glossy black one). They are friendly, free-ranging in the fenced yard during the day, and the easiest pets to look after: a cup of layer pellets and fresh water in the morning, a handful of veggie scraps and locking the coop at sunset is all they need. They lay a beautiful fresh egg each most mornings as a thank you. Punchbowl is wonderfully placed in inner south-west Sydney: minutes from Bankstown, Greenacre Park, fantastic Lebanese and Vietnamese food along Canterbury Road, and an easy train ride to Sydney CBD.
