A sitter is not only choosing a pet to care for; they are choosing a home, routine and set of expectations to live with. The meet and greet is the right time to find out whether the sit is realistic for you. Asking clear questions is professional, not distrustful.
Ask about the real daily routine
- How long can the pet comfortably be left alone?
- What medication, training, behaviour or mobility needs are involved?
- Who is the usual vet and what happens after hours?
- What house, garden, pool, vehicle or security tasks are expected?
- What condition is the property in now, and what standard is expected when you leave?
- Are there guests, cameras, neighbours or tradespeople you should know about?
Check whether the exchange is fair
House sitting is a non-monetary accommodation exchange on Sitterly, not an open-ended agreement to take on every task. If the responsibilities are too large, specialised or different from the listing, it is okay to decline. Clarity protects the homeowner as much as it protects you.
